The Team
Patrekur Maron Magnússon
CEO & board member
Patrekur is a computer scientist by education with a strong interest in Bitcoin and blockchain technology. He founded Myntkaup because he felt there was a lack of a dedicated platform for Icelanders to learn about and trade Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
Kjartan Ragnars
Compliance officer & board member
Kjartan is a lawyer and has been involved in the operations of Myntkaup since its inception. He sits on the company’s board and is one of its shareholders. Kjartan has significant experience discussing Bitcoin in public forums, particularly in radio interviews and podcast episodes.
Magnús Kristinn Jónsson
CFO & chairman of the board
Magnús is an engineer with over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, specializing in risk and asset management. He worked in risk management at Búnaðarbanki and Kaupþing, before becoming the head of risk management at Sparisjóðabankinn (Icebank). He then worked for the receivership and winding-up committee of the bank after it entered liquidation, overseeing asset management and handling the estate’s financial management along with other tasks.
Garðar Karl Ólafsson
Chief Business Officer
Garðar has extensive experience in the financial sector as a broker as well as in advisory work and fintech ventures. Garðar studied business administration and holds a master's degree in corporate finance, is a licensed stockbroker, and additionally has a postgraduate diploma in international affairs.
Sigurður Kári Árnason
Chief Technology Officer
Sigurður is a mathematician with over a decade of experience of working in software development. Before coming to Myntkaup Sigurður worked as a software developer and has designed and implemented projects in backend, frontend and infrastructure at the tech companies TripAdvisor, Controlant and Bókun.
